AIBI Clinic September 19 3 Comments

A. ICBC Auto Accident Insurance

If you have an ICBC claim number, you are eligible for up to 12 free treatments. It does not matter who is at fault for the accident. If more than 12 treatments are required or if 12 weeks have passed, an ICBC adjuster can approve an extension for further treatments or a longer treatment period.

B. MSP BC Provincial Medical Insurance

Under the Supplementary Benefits of the BC provincial medical insurance, eligible individuals can receive up to $23 per acupuncture treatment, for a total of up to $230 annually (10 treatments). For more information on eligibility, contact our clinic or refer to the BC provincial government website.

C. Extended Health Benefits

Acupuncture treatment is covered by most extended health plans. Please check your benefits booklet or contact your insurance provider to clarify coverage details. Plans usually allocate a certain amount per year for therapies like RMT (registered massage therapy), physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and acupuncture.

Some providers cover a percentage per visit (usually 70%-100%), while others offer a fixed dollar amount annually. To receive reimbursement, submit your receipts to your provider directly, and it's recommended to do so every 3 months.

Participating Insurance Providers Include:

  • Alberta Blue Cross
  • Beneva
  • Canada Life
  • Desjardins Insurance
  • GreenShield
  • Pacific Blue Cross
  • Sun Life Financial
  • And many more...

If filing a direct claim with your insurance company, provide the insurance company name, policy number, ID number, policyholder's name, date of birth, and relationship to the policyholder. If you have multiple insurance policies, claims must first be made with the primary insurer, except for cases with Pacific Blue Cross or GreenShield.

D. Travel Insurance and Student Insurance

For visitors to BC or individuals hosting international guests, travel insurance can cover medical treatments at our clinic. Coverage is worldwide as long as the majority of time is spent in Canada. This plan is ideal for visitors, returning Canadians, and immigrants awaiting provincial healthcare coverage.

E. WCB (Workplace Injury)

If you experience an injury or medical condition at your workplace, WCB covers your medical expenses. To report a workplace injury, contact WCB at 204-954-4100 or toll-free at 1-855-954-4321 to speak to a Claim Information Representative.
